10th

Parked on drive

Drove up to Orford Quay today.

208,319km on the odometer.

10th

Parked on drive

Doing odd jobs on Yoko today. First job was to replace the coolant sensor at the back of the engine. This has made the car run much better and appears to have fixed the issue with it running rich and stalling when hot.

18th

ARB bushes

I have been noticing some odd noises from the right rear side when cornering hard in to roundabouts, etc. Initially thought the battery was moving about but, I fabricated a new battery mount and emptied the boot. More testing revealed the noise was still there. Looking at the anti-roll bar, it looks like the bushes are well worn.

19th

MX5 Parts Polybush set

I've ordered a complete set of new bushes for the front and rear anti-roll bars from MX5 Parts.

ARB bolts

Whilst I'm at it, all the bolts are going to be replaced too. The drop link flanged bolts are M10 x 45mm and the thread pitch is 1.25mm. Popped into Suffolk Fasteners and sourced 10 bolts, nuts and locking washers for £4.30. They only had 50mm bolts though but the extra 5mm won't be an issue as there is loads of clearance.

20th

Our cars

My Eunos next to my sister's MX-5.

Our cars

Drove out to Shotley with my Dad driving my sister's MX-5.

21st

MX5 Parts Polybush set

Drove up to Aldeburgh with my parents, in convoy with my sister's MX-5.

22nd

MX5 Parts Polybush set

Something I've been meaning to fix for a long time now is the throttle pedal. It feels like the bushes have worn away and the pedal flaps from side to side a lot. It's held on by a circlip and a once popped off, the new nylon bushes were easy to install. Easy fix, works very smoothly now and no side to side wobble :-)

At some point it looks like the whole mounting bracket has snapped and been welded. I'm going to try and source a second hand bracket that's in better condition.

24th

MX5 Pedal Box

Popped into Retro & Modern Automotive Ltd (was Suffolk Mazda) to see if they had the throttle pedal bracket. What I actually got was a lot bigger than I expected. Needs a bit of a clean up and painting before it goes in the car but it's in much better condition and only cost me £20.

25th

Dismantled the pedal unit and cleaned it up, ready to be painted.

26th

First coat of paint on the new pedal unit.

ARB Polybushes

The Polybush kit arrived in the post today :-)

Removed the rear anti-roll bar and drop links. We then went out for a test drive to see what difference this makes. The back end feels softer and bounces around more. The suspension clunks have gone though :-)

Anti-roll bar parts

Removed the front anti-roll bar and drop links. I found the easiest way to get the bushes out of the drop links was to heat the metal core with a blow torch and basically burn them out. Next job is to clean this lot up and paint all the parts.
