Bought a couple of new silicon hoses. Need to get some more though but they are not currently in stock at MX5 Parts. These new hoses are By-Pass Hose and Heater Hose No1.
I have the whole weekend free and decent weather to finally start work on replacing the water pump and the camshaft timing belt with my Dad. The car in the background is my Dad's Fisher Fury R1.
Not everything went to plan. On an old car like this seized bolts that then snap are a fairly common occurence. On undoing the thermostat housing bolt (to move the p-clip and electric cable out of the way), it snapped.
Fortunately the other bolt came undone easily, giving access to the remaining part of the bolt. This has been soaked in PlusGas.
We got as far as we could today. We have taken out the old water pump and are now ready to put it all back together but, we need a few more parts before we can do this.
A new water pump inlet pipe has been ordered. This is an expensive part to replace at £96!
The part I took off the car is very corroded and the little pipe has almost gone. The beaded part has disolved and what is left doesn't look strong enough to withstand a hose clip. This was where the earlier leak was discovered too but the hose had also started to crumble.
I've also ordered a new crankshaft oil seal as we may as well replace this part now. There was quite a lot of oil build up around the crankshaft pulley, which implies a long term leak.
