The bodywork on my Eunos is very good condition with very little rust. There are a few stone chips on some of the panels.
My Eunos originally started out as a 'Silver Stone' car (paint code 3L). It was resprayed 'Copper Red Mica' (paint code 32V) at some point by a previous owner. I quite liked this slightly retro colour, so I stuck with it for a while.
The paintwork on my Eunos is not in brilliant condition though. At some point a cover was left on the car too long and the lacquer has bubbled and faded.
My plan was to get the whole car resprayed in Mazda Arctic White and this has now been done. I chose a solid paint colour, so that it is easier to repair later if need be.
This is going to be replaced with a 316 grade stainless-steel woven '3 mesh' (3 holes to the inch). I need a piece about 32" × 6". |
The passenger weather strip looks like a fixing clip has broken and a bodge repair has been made using glue. I'm not sure why, as you can buy new clips from MX5 Parts for £1.97. Having said that, they haven't been in stock since I bought the Eunos :-(
All the rubber seals have been cleaned up using a silicon-based cleaner.
Every time I come across a badly corroded screw, bolt, nut or other type of fixing, I will replace it. If this is not possible, I will clean it up and grease it before refitting it. I've also kept all the old bolts just in case.
There are 5mm bolts with captive washers used all over the MX-5, for things like brackets, bodywork panels, wheel arch liners, etc. I just couldn't find a source of new ones but Retro & Modern Automotive Ltd (was Suffolk Mazda) had boxes of them that they had removed from old MX-5s and I bought some in 'as new' condition. |
These black 8 × ¾" (4.2 × 19mm) Pozidrive screws are used all over the interior. I found these at a local automotive shop. |
