Wheels

My Eunos has 15" TSW alloy aftermarket wheels fitted. The Mk I car typically has 14" (185/60H14), 15" (195/50R15) or 16" (215/40W16) wheels.

Wheel Studs & Nuts

Wheel nut torque is listed as between 95 - 112Nm. I use 100Nm.

Tyres

My Eunos came with with Yokohama S306 tyres in 195/50R15 82H. In July 2016 the fronts had 6.5mm tread and the rears 5.5mm. After our first trackday these had lost less than 0.5mm, which shows how hard a compound there are.

Recommended tyre pressures (from Pure Tyre):

Most people on the various forums seem to run 28psi or higher, especially on track days.

Trackday Wheels

I bought a second set of 15" alloy wheels to fit some track day tyres to. There seems to be more tyre options when sticking with 15" rims. These wheels weigh 7.5Kg each.

The above wheels are Japanese though and have valve holes that are just 6mm in diameter. This means I had to buy some special bolt-on valves to fit them. These have rubber seals and two 9mm nuts (one is a locking nut).

This is what they loook like fitted. These came with metal dust caps but I've replaced these with plastic ones (not shown) as metal ones can seize.

Tyres

The car was bought in June 2016 with Yokohama Yokohama S306 tyres in 195/50R15 82H. The 'H' speed rating means up to 210km/h or 130mph. These are a very hard compound and have very little grip.

In September 2016 I bought some new alloy wheels and fitted ADVAN Neova AD08R in 195/50R15 82V. The 'V' speed rating means up to 240Km/h or 149mph. These are a track day and competition summer tyre. I paid £332 for all four fitted. I weighed the wheels at 7.5Kg each and with the tyre on they are 15.5Kg. Tread depth from new is 7mm.

These are going to place more stress on the car and in particular the the brakes.

Trackday Tyre Options

There are loads of options when it comes to trackday tyres. Some people go for cheap tyres but they seem to have more variable quality.

Bridgestone

A fellow MX-5 owner has Bridgestone RE002 tyres fitted and these over heated on his track day.

Federal

We have never used Federal tyres before but many owners seem to rate the Federal 595's.

Maxsport

We have never used Maxsport tyres before and will investigate these further.

Nankang

Nankang is a Taiwanese company offering budget performance tyres. The reviews seems very variable with people either lovign them or hating them. This appears to be down to manufacturing inconsistencies. I'm not sure I want to gamble.

NS-2R Sportnex
These are the new version of the NS2.

Yokohama

A well known and regarded tyre manufacturer with a long track record in motorsport. My Dad uses Yokohama A048's on his Fisher Fury R1.

The Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD08R is well regarded tyre that gets excellent reviews.
