The oil pressure is nice and steady with the engine turning over and the temperature reading also sits nicely in the middle, even when driven hard. Early Mk I cars are the only onles with a proper analogue pressure gauge. Later cars and versions have a fake oil pressure gauge for some reason.
Compared to most modern cars the stalk controls are reversed, with the indicator stalk on the right in this car.
The drivers side door mirror was very floppy. It is easy to remove and take apart and this showed that teh internal bolt and spring had been replaced at some point with something that really wasn't up to the job. These were replaced with a much bigger bolt and spring and this has fixed this issue.
The rear view mirror is a bit too small. It should be easy to replace it with something giving a wider field of view, which would be very useful on track.
The pedals are OEM. I'm not sure if the footrest is original fitment but it can be removed if need be. It is actually quite useful though. |
Reading through the paperwork that came with the car, it is clear the throttle pedal mount snapped at some point and was welded back together. The repair clearly visible. A bigger issue to be fixed is that the pivot is sloppy, resulting in lots of sideways movement of the throttle pedal and this needs to be fixed.
The throttle pedal is very sensitive on the first 5mm of travel. I'm not sure what can be done about this yet.
My car is the roadster version with electric windows.
The steering is covered in here.
